At Australia-Korea Business Council (AKBC), we are big believers that enabling pathways and opportunities for women in leadership can lead to significant and everlasting positive impact. As an organisation, we strive to open doors and be part of a world where equality persists over tradition.

AKBC supported by Mazars in Australia and Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) is proud to present our Australia - Korea Women in Leadership event in Brisbane.

This event aims to enhance leadership capabilities, foster knowledge exchange and create a strong collaborative network. Following the success of this event series in Melbourne and Sydney in 2022, our Brisbane event will continue in acknowledging and applauding the achievements and fortitude of women contributing to the Australia-Korea bilateral relationship.

While this event is specifically designed for women engaged in the Australia-Korea bilateral relationship, we encourage anyone to attend who wishes to learn more about the experiences and learnings from women in this industry.

Liz has been leading the Australia-Korea Business Council as CEO since December 2015, leveraging her extensive background with Asialink Business and KPMG to spearhead initiatives that enhance bilateral trade and investment between Australia and Korea. Her command of the Korean language is both deep and nuanced, evidenced by her completion of a Diploma of Languages (Korean) at Monash University, alongside her studies at Seoul National University. Liz's academic journey also took her to Yonsei University and Sogang University, further enriching her understanding of Korean culture and business practices.

In 2017, Liz's efforts in promoting economic collaboration between Korea and Australia were formally recognised by the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney with an appreciation plaque. Her dedication to leadership and excellence in governance was underscored in 2021 upon graduating from the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course.

Liz is passionate about unveiling the dynamic opportunities that exist between Australia and Korea, particularly in sectors critical to the future, such as energy transition, critical minerals, food and agriculture, and financial services. She is dedicated to educating Australian audiences about the strategic importance of our third-largest trading market, driven by a mission to ensure Australian businesses thrive in Korea, and likewise, Korean businesses find success in Australia. This commitment not only showcases her dedication to strengthening bilateral ties but also highlights her role as a pivotal advocate for cross-cultural business success.

Catherine Fox AM is a leading commentator on women and the workforce, an award-winning journalist, author and presenter. During a long career with the Financial Review, she edited several sections of the newspaper, and wrote the Corporate Woman column; and she has published five books, including "Stop Fixing Women” which along with her journalism was awarded the 2017 Walkley Award for Women’s Leadership in Media.

Catherine helped establish the annual Financial Review 100 Women of Influence Awards in 2012 and was named a Woman of Influence in 2018. She has been a gender equality advisor to the Australian Defence Force, sits on the Australians Investing in Women board, and the Sydney Women’s Fund advisory council. In 2022 she was awarded an AM for significant service to journalism, gender equality and diversity.

Yumi Han is the General Manager of Brisbane office for POSCO International Corporation. She leads the overall management of the subsidiary acquired in 2022, while also spearheading the exploration of new Energy Business opportunities.

Yumi Han’s corporate experience covers over 15 years, with a diverse background in Reservoir Engineering and holding a US CPA Candidate. She is specialised in exploring new business opportunities in the Energy sector. In addition to business development, she has experience in managing M&A deals from inception to completion, as well as overseeing post-merger integration processes. Those roles have allowed her to leverage her technical expertise and financial acumen to drive successful transactions and ensure seamless integration of acquired entity.

Yumi Han has broad experience across various countries, including Australia, United States, Thailand, and Indonesia. Her global experience has provided her with a unique perspective on navigating international markets and understanding cultural nuances to drive successful business outcomes.

As a Partner with Mazars, Sinjung is a diligent and a hard working person with optimistic attitude. She has over 22 years experience in proving clients with a broad range of services. Sinjung’s areas of expertise include corporate and business taxation, business advice on income tax, goods and services tax, capital gains tax, fringe benefits tax, etc, international corporate services, business planning and advisory services, advice on establishing new businesses and registration requirements in Australia, cash flow projection and business forecasts, mortgage advice, financial assistance to business Visa applications, Not-For-Profit organisation service, foreign investment consulting and EMDG.

Sinjung is a Korean Australian (Bi-Lingual in both Korean and English) and has deep understanding of Asian and local business operators. Sinjung’s bi-lingual abilities coupled with her experience and expertise allows Sinjung’s clients to access a multi-disciplined service that supports their growth and success.

Heejung Cecilia is a first generation immigrant who arrived by herself to Australia as an overseas student, straight after high school.

Heejung Cecilia’s corporate experience covers over 20 years of financial & non-financial risk management as a Chartered Accountant. Heejung Cecilia has consulting experience from Big 4 advisory firms and was part of an Australian investment bank’s Seoul office establishment team. Heejung Cecilia’s diverse work experience spans across ESG Resilience Risk management, cyber security management, enforceable undertaking remediation, institutional capital raising and infrastructure asset management.

Heejung Cecilia has board experience on a diversity & inclusion charity, Dawn Foundation working alongside the founder, Dai Le MP, through the COVID lock-down period. Currently, she is actively involved in ‘diversity in arts’ community projects.

Outside her corporate work Heejung Cecilia is a well-being practitioner who leverages Yoga, Music & Art to enable healthy, mindful living in communities.
